About the Artist

There is a mystery to the visual energy that emanates from a canvas. The strength of contrasting values, the boldness of saturated hues, the subtle transition from calm stillness to bouncing activity, all this and more speaks from a single painting! Now, of course, all this is anchored in scientific data about how the eye responds to wave lengths and frequencies of light. However, to create that perfect convergence of hue, intensity, contrast, form, balance, and harmony on canvas, my role as the artist is to continually search for that moment.

My creative energies have been immersed in drawing, painting, and developing my own unique abstract linear style. My inherent journey as an artist includes the multifaceted ability to apply, augment, abstract. It is the interpretation of the already incredible lines, curves, shapes, and shadows ever present in our beautiful complex world. Whether it be found in nature or the soft folds of a fabric or my own imagination, so beautiful it can’t possibly be real, so fleeting that capturing it on canvas can be a fool’s journey, yet all can be explored, molded, magnified, personified. Each composition unfolds in the process and, after hours of assiduous application, that nirvana moment is reached. It is personal and filled with emotion. That is my quest, which gives me immense joy to pursue!

My work is in the permanent collection of Barber Library at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon, as well as in many private collections. It has been exhibited in Central Oregon including the North Rim Club Facility, Umpqua Bank, Central Oregon Community College, and the County Building. It has been featured on the cover of Cascade A&E, May 2022 (view feature here). Over the years, I have enjoyed continuing studies in art and painting through Portland State University and Pacific Northwest College of Art Community Education in Portland, Oregon, as well as numerous classes at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon. Thank you to family, friends and clients who have showered me with encouragement. We are all a composite of everyone in our lives … what an incredible painting that would make!
